The Moorhen Bistro is located near Staithes in North Yorkshire and is situated within the tranquil and secluded grounds of the ancient moated manor of Seaton Hall (recorded in the Domesday Book). The restaurant opened on September 30th as an evening service for our very popular tea room, The Barn Owl which was established in 2018.
The tea room was originally located within the 13th century tithe barn forming part of the quadrangle to the rear of the Manor House. Due to the pandemic and in order to expand and open our evening venue, both the Barn Owl tea room and The Moorhen Bistro have been relocated within a former steel framed former barn adjoining our on-site Street Antiques Centre. The Barn Owl was named to commemorate the barn owls we have living in the grounds and barns. They can often be seen during the day hunting over the Zodiac Arboretumand and our woodlands. The Moorhen was named after the Moorhens that have used the Old Moat in the past.
Seaton Hall, based on the North Yorkshire Heritage Coast, is set in a walkers paradise, with cliff tops and deeply wooded ravines to explore.
The highest cliffs on the East Coast, harbour, bays and beaches are just a mile away.
